Please read this amazing book!
If you really want to know what Jessica is experiencing while incarcerated at the Perryville Women's Prison, please read The Slumber Party From Hell by Sue Ellen Allen. This amazing book takes you inside the prison where you will feel like you are right there with Jessica. Jessica is healthy, thank God. Sue Ellen battled advanced breast cancer, while her young roommate, Gina, was dying of leukemia and medical neglect.

Here is a review by author Marilyn McGrath that touched me:

“In The Slumber Party from Hell, Sue Ellen tells what is an unpleasant, painful, and humiliating truth for her. She stands there unadorned and exposed (think of the cover) and says: Here I am. Here's my story.

That kind of courage is powerful and engaging; no one can turn away. She makes us question ourselves: What would I do? Could I survive as well? She makes us question the status quo: What can be done to improve conditions on the inside? In an age that seems to lack imagination and reward shallow conformity, Sue Ellen and her book stand way above the crowd.”

I couldn’t put it down. You won’t be able to either. She takes you on a journey with Jessica that will anger you about the way we incarcerate and inspire you to want to make a difference of your own.

Upon her release, Sue Ellen and Gina’s parents formed Gina’s Team to bring education and compassion behind the wires. Please visit the Gina's team website to learn more about this wonderful organization and to see how YOU can help!
